Meet The Candidate

Meet Barbara

A Yukon resident since 1989, Barbara Dunlop has worked as a public servant, a local volunteer and is a bestselling romance novelist.

Barbara believes Yukoners deserve authentic representation in Ottawa to secure the supports and resources they need to enhance their quality of life and further their dreams for their businesses, families and interests. 

Recently retired from the Yukon Public Service, Barbara served as the Yukon Film Commissioner, Director of Business and Industry Development and Director of Policy, Planning and Communications. She has worked with businesses across all economic sectors, including retail, manufacturing, tourism, mining, culture and innovation. She has the experience to understand and advocate for Yukon’s business needs and then ensure government listens.

Along with her husband, bush pilot Gordon Dunlop, Barbara raised two children in Yukon. Having served on school councils, she is passionate about helping young people flourish and prepare for their future through career and skills development. 

An avid supporter of the creative community, Barbara co-organized many writers events, bringing editors, authors and agents from across Canada to mentor Yukon authors. Barbara has written romance novels set in locations across North America—some of her favorites being Yukon and Alaska. Her books have been translated into dozens of languages and published in numerous countries around the world.

With broad understanding of northern issues and a deep commitment to the Yukon, Barbara has the experience to make sure Yukoners are heard in Ottawa.
